The Work You Were Made For

Ordinary work—a job, a task, a daily responsibility—is never truly ordinary. The Rebbe teaches that every problem you encounter, every person you serve, every challenge you face at work points to something. It is an invitation. If you notice what needs to be fixed—a colleague's loneliness, a process that could be kinder, a small injustice—and you know how to help, then you have found your piece of the puzzle. That is not chance. That is purpose calling you by name. Meaning in ordinary work emerges not from grand ambitions alone, but from showing up as yourself, fully present, and asking: "Who needs me here? What light can I bring?" Even the most routine task becomes sacred when it flows from that question. And the timing matters too. There will be seasons when you are learning, seasons when you are building, seasons when you must simply endure. Trust that each season has its purpose. Your work in this season—right now—is exactly what the world needs from you.
